What to Clean Before Moving Into a New Home

Clean these surfaces while the home is still empty — it is the only easy chance.

Clean kitchen ready for residents moving into a Seattle home.

Anything you will store food or clothes in

  • Kitchen cabinets and drawers, inside and out
  • Pantry shelving
  • Closet shelves and rods
  • Bathroom vanity and medicine cabinet interiors

Anything you will touch every day

  • Door handles, switch plates, and light pulls
  • Faucets, shower controls, and toilet handles
  • Appliance handles and control panels

Floors and edges, while they are clear

Empty floors are the one chance to clean corners, closet floors, and the strip behind where the sofa will sit. Once furniture is placed, those areas are hard to reach again.

Sequence for moving week

Schedule the clean after the previous occupant leaves and before your delivery date. If the two overlap, prioritize kitchen and bathrooms first, then bedrooms, then living areas.

Frequently asked questions

Should I clean inside the refrigerator myself?

You can, or add it to the service. Inside the refrigerator and inside the oven are both available add-ons.
